Buying fine art photography online for the first time can feel overwhelming. There are so many options, mass produced prints, print on demand sites, independent artists, and it can be hard to know what you're actually buying. As a fine art photographer who has exhibited internationally, I want to make this simple for you. Here is everything you need to know before you make your first purchase.
Fine Art Prints Are Not Decoration
The most important thing I want you to understand before you buy anything is this: a fine art print is not decoration. It is an object with a life span longer than most furniture in your home. When you buy a limited edition print you are buying something that will outlast trends, outlast the sofa beneath it and outlast the room it hangs in.
Every print in the Zenassidy Photography collection is produced on archival fine art paper with pigment inks, built to resist fading for decades without losing colour or quality. Each one is individually numbered and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. This is not wall filler. This is a permanent object.
Always Go Bigger Than You Think
This is the advice I give everyone. Every single person who has ever stood in front of their wall after hanging a print has wished they went bigger. The image that looks large on your screen will look smaller than you expect on your wall. Trust the measurement not the instinct.
Before you order, measure your wall. Use painter's tape to mark out the size you're considering. Stand back and live with it for a day. Then go one size up.
For most rooms I recommend a 16x24 inch print as the starting point. If you have the wall for a 24x36, do it. You won't regret it. If you're buying for a smaller space like a bedroom or study, a 12x18 creates an intimate, personal feel that works beautifully.
Think About the Framing Before You Order
Your print will arrive unframed, rolled carefully in a protective archival tube, ready to be unrolled, flattened and framed. Before your print arrives have a plan for how you want to frame it.
For my portrait work I always recommend a simple black frame with a wide white mat. It lets the image breathe and speak for itself. For the warmer sepia images like Calm & Connection and Flow & Freedom, a deep walnut or aged oak frame with a cream mat adds richness without competing with the photograph.
Standard frame sizes from IKEA or your local framer will work beautifully with most sizes in my collection. For larger prints, 24x36 and above, I recommend a custom framer who can ensure the print is mounted correctly and protected with UV glass.
Consider the Mood of the Room
Before you choose a print think about how you want to feel when you walk into the room. Art changes a space, not just visually but emotionally.
A bold portrait like Gravity Defying Crown brings power and presence to a living room or hallway. A quieter image like Clouds In My Sky creates a soft, dreamlike quality perfect for a bedroom. One Shore, two people facing the same horizon in the ocean, brings a sense of love and calm that works in almost any room in the home.
Browse the collection with the room in mind. Ask yourself, how do I want to feel here?
